Boavista

The Boavista area, which develops around the Mouzinho de Albuquerque Square - that the portuenses (residents of Oporto) know mainly as Boavista roundabout - and the Avenida da Boavista, is the city's business centre, but also, increasingly, a cultural pole. Boavista has the House of Music (Casa da Música), the first building built in Portugal exclusively dedicated to music, and a remarkable work of the architect Rem Koolhaas; the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, the most important museum of Oporto and one of the best in the country, whose building was designed by Siza Vieira; and the City Park, the green lung of the city, with 83 hectares of green areas, hiking trails and various sports equipment. In addition to these landmarks of the city, there are major shopping areas, restaurants with "own signatures", nice cafes and terraces and various shops. Very close to the Boavista roundabout, visit the Bom Sucesso Market, a symbol of modernist architecture of the 50s in the twentieth century which has recently been reclassified and where now a hotel, fresh stalls and a modern food court is found. Next to the City Park and the sea, enjoy the esplanade of the Edifício Transparente (Transparent Building).
